Mauritius is situated in the Indian Ocean – located approximately 1100 km away from the East coast of Madagascar and 2000 km to the south eastern coast of Africa. Sea, sand and sun - Mauritius offers sport, leisure, culture, cuisine, excitement and relaxation. The Mauritian people are extremely friendly and the beach resorts very luxurious and the finest hospitality. Mauritius is a year-round destination. The island enjoys a mild tropical climate with average temperatures varying between 20°C and 32°C. The most equable climate is to be found on the west coast of Mauritius. The western part of the island is warm, sunny and sheltered during all seasons, ensuring year-round holiday enjoyment. Summer is from November to May, during this period the temperature varies between 22°C and 35°C. Winter is from June to October, during this period the temperature varies between 17°C and 26°C. The coastal areas are usually warmer. Cyclones may affect the country between November and April. Mauritius is 4 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and 3 hours ahead compared to the European Continent. The local currency is Mauritian Rupee (Rs). All major Credit cards are usually accepted by banks and most hotels. South African passport holders do not require visas or inoculations for travel to Mauritius. Passports need to be valid for a minimum of six months after return date back to South Africa.
